As some of you may know at I34 my ipod touch took a bath and wasnt too happy after that. Apple wouldnt repair it under warranty (which i didnt expect them too), and my insurance wouldnt cover it because i hadnt claimed it within 48 hours. I managed to dismantle it (with a few cuts and bruises, destroying the back cover and cracking the outer screen mind....), ripped the battery off (which was the problem, and ive soldered a cable onto the contact for +ve and the otehr cable to a metal piece on the inner back. Its meant to run on 3.7 volts but ive found it runs happile from a 5 volt motorola charger i spliced onto the cable. I only use it in the car really so running it from a 5 volt adapter should be easy enough :)

I approve of this bodging. Did you actually properly break any of it in the process?

Now at least no one's gonna want to steal it if you leave it lying around.

Just the outer screen and silver back panel. it still works perfectly. You can see the crack on the screen if you look closely.

Hehe, nice modding there.

I'd have a bet they're comfortable up to about 5.5V, then the PICs might start to go haywire.

Mitch, don't forget this (http://www.atkcommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1313) and this (http://www.atkcommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1350) (yeah technically not a crash).

Getting stranded on a beach and breaking the steering and brakes on a car by extreme off roading isnt a crash :P

Tractor? You went to far with cow-tipping this time Chaz...

Nah, wasn't a tractor, it was a Land Rover Disco. I was driving someone around who wanted to go shooting on our land, we were going down a steep hill, it was pitch black, and it had been raining so it was really muddy. Lost control and couldn't use the breaks because it would just slide, so managed to do a 360 in the mud before ploughing sideways into a fence around a plantation which I spent the whole of the next morning rebuilding. But we weren't hurt thankfully, because we were in a Land Rover.
