View Full Version : What one game would you keep if you're stuck all alone on an island?

Well, this question was asked on another forum I browse, so why not ask it here? ;)

So you are trapped all alone on an island, and you can choose only one (1) game to play, probably for the rest of your life.

here are the rules for you :

You only have limited internet access, a narrow bandwidth perhaps.

Therefore you cannot play in online games like MMOs.

But you can dowload, very slowly (but time is on your side) mods.

There are no hardware restrictions, so the PC can be as powerful as you want and runs any OS you wish.

The game can come with its expansions (if any).

But you cannot choose more than one version of the same game, like for example, you can only have Max Payne 2, but not the original.

What would you choose, and why?

Half Life 2...

maybe the Orange Box. Comes with the SDK, and allows for mods.

Yeah, the source engine is one of the best around, and certainly one of the most modded, dispite it's age. Let me explain it in list form

Dystopia
SourceForts
Gmod9
PVKII
Metastasis
Eternal Silence
etc...

: O

Uh, I guess it would have to be...

Quake 3, all expansions, It's just an amazing game, with an awesome load of mods, and I've just come off playing it for about an hour, (I totally wasn't using timescale 0.25) xD

And I keep getting progressively better.. What would make Quake 3 better, is that if it got hi-def graphics all of a sudden..........

I'm not sure I'd go with Half Life 2 myself, a lot of the best mods for it are multiplayer centred and as the rules go, you can't really play them, so unless I wanted to play against bots forever, I'd probably have to say no. Plus there is the size of the mods as well, they'd take ages download on the crappy connection the island has. :)

Still thinking about my own choice though, I'm narrowing down the list, still.

Wow that would keep me entertained for ever :)

But honestly i cant think of one game that i could choose from, i get bored of games so quickly, maybe somthing like oblivion or a total war game if i really had to choose :p

Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

You could spend a decade in the communities making/testing/playing all the mods on offer.

Trackmania Nations if that's allowed as an internet game (doesn't use much).

Yeah, I would definately say I'd be in RPG territory if I had to pick my game, which would have to be (Chazlene, feel free to cringe/mega-margh like you usually do):
Neverwinter Nights, same reason as Phantom. Hundreds of mods with so many different tones, city-based thieving, epic politics, hack n' slash, high combat, low combat, lots of puzzles, no puzzles, asian themed, low fantasy, high fantasy and a disturbing amount of fetish fantasy to boot. That and the toolset is piss to work with so I could make my own adventures as well.

PR (so BF2 (Or hopefully soon the TGEA)), with the Single-Player mini-mod, along with the BF2 Editor, 3Ds Max, zBrush, Photoshop and a powerful machine, then I could mod the game to my hearts content.

I would probably play a lot of text based/basic graphic MMORPG's and since wow can quite easily be run on dialup with pretty much most of the bandwidth to spare I'd play that if there was nothing else.

The idea is that you're all alone and have on PC game to starve off boredom, since otherwise you could just pick a MMORPG and have hours of fun with other people.

It would probably have to be ether Zoo tycoon with all expansions or rollercoaster tycoon with all expansions (Both epic games:D). Back in the day I used to play those games all the time and probably still could. If not them then I would agree with Phantom, something like oblivion.

yay, then you could put DIFFERENT little icon thingies for the hud :P

seriously though, if you could download mods, surely you'd be able to download indie games? or just use warez or steam and get everything you could wish for. It would be slow, but then again, you'd have time. :P

Very true, but it does kind of miss the point of the question as well. ;)

Theme Hospital.

Mainly since I never finished that in the first place.

I'm with spawn, something like SimCity, one of the Theme Games, or a sims game. Never-ending and no internet's required.

It's just theoretical, obviously it would never happen because you could download everything.

Also, the FBI wouldn't be able to find you, they'd just arrest the nearest black teenager with internet access if you started pirating stuff x3
