We all knew it was coming, but it's great to hear an official word on it:

"I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product," said Pleasants, according to G4. "Of course, that's not [coming out] in the fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good."

The Battlefield franchise has had it's ups and downs, but who will be able to resist buying this. The only excuse will probably be the graphics card needed!

So yeah, this is probably going to be the release I'm going to get most excited about, but I'll try and hold myself back until there are previews.

Here's to hoping this will turn up in time to crush MAG :p.

Do Want.

Considering what DICE did with the frostbite engine in BF:BC, I can't wait for the PC version.

There's a leaked design document somewhere on the interwebs that came out ages ago, it gives some hints as to what BF3 will feature. :)

Bah, it's made by DICE/EA, meaning the core game will be crap but mods and the engine will be good.

Talk to me on Steam, I have the cures :D.

Ahhh, the days of BF2 Cambi... when I cried over the lag making my gun jerk about and envied your 6600GT card...

hope this one will be epic, as in atleast 32player mutliplayer, lots of guns that are good, detailed kid editing and unlocks for kits, more kits :P, realistic gameplay for all guns like oneshot head and heart zone, 99% destructable buildings the 1% left is the ground or wait lets dig a hole :P

At least 32 player? I'd find it strange if they do less than 64 player multiplayer.

I'm with Phant here... DICE should know that 16/32 is fine for consoles, but PC gamers expect 64 from them.

Just found this here (http://www.digitalbattle.com/2007/10/09/breaking-battlefield-3-leaked-info/).

Obviously it is completely out of date (2008 came and past awhile ago). Still might be a hint of what is to come, and uhh, as you can see, if this was genuine, they were planning 40 a side. So no worries there.

I DO wonder... How far could they take it? With the massive maps, they might decide to go further... will we finally see 128?

Why stop at 128? bring on 256!

Though 128 players on each side would be hard to manage, both from a technical point of view and the commanders point of view, he'd need like, sub-commanders..

Adds to the realism. And shotgun the ATK commander for USMC matches :D

Slight de-rail here, and this'll sound like a noob question, but why does almost everything in computing work in powers of 2? 128, 256, 512 etc.

And I think it should work like ArmA II, no limit on the players, just rely on people leaving when the lag starts to kick in o.o

2.4.8.16.32.64.128.256

it goes like that because games always have to 1up each other.

Old games had splitscreen 2 player. then LAN with 4 people... and it grew from there

Descent has 8 online players at a time
Doom only has 4
8>4
Descent>Doom

Greater Than.

God, I love that advert =D

There's no mention of Fireteams in there :(.

I'll look forward to the hopeful mod-ability of the engine.
