Since MW2 is getting very close to its release date, I thought I'd post up a quick comparison for you between the latest and previous Modern Warfare game.

I was sooo looking forward to this game a couple of months ago, and practically preordered it. I just find it so hard to believe that they think the online aspect of MW2 is better.

Sure, it could be good in some ways, but I'm just going to wait and see. I don't think I'll ever get over the idea of 18 players on a server though when I usually look for at least 24/32.

Its max 16 players isnt it 8v8, u can't even lean!!!! and basically they took pc game turn it into console game and gave the console version to pc gamers. A lot of people where looking forward to this game, the single player looks pretty good as usual, but the mp is going to be awful, gunna wait till xmas and see wot people think but i can see most people stickin to cod4 unless it gets some good reviews or there is a possibility of competitive play.

Anyway on MW2, well the MP is crap, the SP looks like it'll be good, but at the same time, it looks like they've gone completely mental as well (an underwater bit, fights in the middle of Washington D.C. heck I won't be suprised if we don't go to space either.)

But I'm not buying it, simple as. :D

Also, after watching that rap MW2 video the single player certainly looks like a blast, but don't you think the graphics look rather disappointing compared to the likes of BFBC2?

Be honest guys, who really bothered with COD4 multiplayer for extended periods of time anyway? and i'm not just talking about XP-driven play, how long did you find it fun?

I quite often jump on a team deathmatch server with 24-32 players. Sure, it's a complete spam fest but I have a great time and usually end up with a score in the top 5 :D.

I dont exactly regularly play it (tho i dont regularly play anything...).

But every time I do i always find it fun and enjoyable. It annoys me that the leveling system isnt hosted on a cloud coz im never on teh same userprofile and have to keep starting over. thats the only real reason i dont play it alot more

That's the ONE improvement MW2 will have over MW1 lol.

i'm serious, you will not get any good multiplayer in on the PC... Local servers DO NOT WORK. The obvious example is L4D... even four players causes a problem. Anyone who has recently tried borderlands through gameranger will also get the same thing. Anyone who has tried the freebie shooter AVA will discover this.

How many times have you turned round and said in TS, or in another group, and said, "I can't host local, who can?"


local servers kill game quality, it can go die in a fire.

This is make to make things EASIER than using dedicated servers remember, and to be honest changing my NAT settings on my router is way fecking harder than clicking on a server I fancy.

Also, for some reason all the MW2 players can't see anyone else online :p.

I give it 3-5 days before online is working perfectly on the pirated version. You don't give a massive finger to the PC community and avoid getting fingered yourself.

Trouble with the pirated multiplayer is that it wont have proper cheat protection and will be overrun by hackers.

tbh im starting to think of buying just the game. If its only £35 rather than the £50 for consoles. I never used the lean button an any games that support it and the gameplay looks very very tempting. I still agree it needs servers but ive played CSS with pings upward of 100 before fine. My normal ping is 70-80.

Also, from reading the wiki entry on the plot for MW2 (just to see if that is worth playing) it looks like they've once again the plot has many setpieces that seem unusually close to a single series of 24. In this case Series 5, while CoD4 was the first half of series 6 (Zakheav even lost the same ARM for Pete's sake.)

I feel the same way. I think i'd feel dirty if i bought it, but it does look good. I think i want Dragon Age as well though and I recently bought L4D2, Borderlands, and Torchlight, so this can wait until after christmas when (maybe) it will be cheaper (unlikely if it's down to activision).

Tbh cod4 was awesome when it was released and multi-player was amazin, you could just play for hours tryin to unlock stuff and get ur rank up...then someone ruined it by findin that ur profile was saved locally and you could give it to other people. But i was playin multiplayer this w/e when i was at home at it was soooo much fun, just playin tdm or sabotage. The competitive bit was awesome aswell. The grafix are gunna be a lot better for console and only look marginally better on pc. But there guna have to fix this local hosting bullshit, its just not going to work. Flatmates have both bought this for xbox and ps3, but the sensible person wit the pc isnt :P I'm wit chalex gunna watch this train wreck from afar and hope they fix it by xmas holz and i will buy, otherwise I'll be gettin my pirate hat on :D

lol the multiplayer is actually good, the p2p hasn't really made much difference, apart from host leaving now and again. The levelin is good and the amount of customisation for multiplayer is awesome. Tbh the shear amount of content the game has its worth getting, and you don't really need the dedi support unless u want to play the game competitively or with some random mod on it.

The amount of packet loss on every single game ive seen my brother play vs dedi mode is fucking horrendous. at least 20% of the time bullets dont even register.

Really, it seems fine on console, only now and again you get little lag spikes at the start or if its deciding to change host. And peeps in ma cod4 clan who have the game and have been playin say its fine imo, however dedi is obv win :D Can't wait to see how there gunna set up competitive play without any dedi, like pro leagues are obv gunna need dedi support tbh, but apparently IW are goin to sort somethin out, hopefully they will just release dedi!!!!! Wish I was Bill Gates, I would buy Activision and IW and get it sorted :P
