I went down to the local doctors with a chest infection (again) this morning, and had to use the auto-signin thingie, which is a touchscreen. Now in the past this touchscreen simply had to choose your gender, and put your DOB in, and it'd tell you where to go and wait for an hour, but not anymore. Oh no.

It has a LANGUAGE selector first. Now I know what you're thinking... french, spanish, maybe german...

Nope, there were only two options. One was English, obviously, but what was the second?

Polish.

You really have to wonder, what the fuck is wrong with this local area, that the LOCAL CLINIC for the NHS has to include doctors that speak the language of immigrants.

Or maybe it's that most of the doctors are immigrants themselves...

What're your thoughts? Ignoring the case of borderline racism, what's happened to your local area?

American English (guess without looking at spoiler).

EDIT: Ah Polish. Seems strange to ONLY include polish...

I have a couple of polish friends - both are awesome. I don't see the problem - so long as their not here illegally.

I'd like to first state: 1 - I am not a racist and 2: My views are not that of the community or any other member of ATK, and are my own

- I don't have a problem with people from poland being here, but I'll take my school for example - My school is 60% Native English born people, the rest are from Poland (second largest nationality-wide) and then from the middle east etc.

I go to a catholic school, but we didn't celebrate St. George's day for the last 2 years, instead we had "Polish Christmas Celebration" "Poland Day", "Learn Polish", and many more things centered around Poland

I understand giving the Polish community in England a warm welcome, they are, in all honesty, much harder workers than many English born people, but there's a point where we're excluding other immigrant communities, so much so that it seems just to be England and Poland being recognised in my local area.

- I'll reiterate my first point, I'm not a racist (as in society today even saying the words "Polish" or "Black" will get you arrested for racist abuse), and I have no problem with immigrants, as England has always been a multi-cultural country, but there is a certain point.

Good post VH, but personally I don't have a problem with the language selections as long as there are more than 2 options. Not everyone is English or Polish in the UK.

In general though, there does seem to be a little too much focus on immigrants here in the UK - but that's a very debatable topic :p.

Yeah, it's not that I have a giant problem with there being considerations such as language selection; it's just focusing on one other language that gets on my tits. Without taking into consideration other cultures England would be a fucking boring place, but there has to be a balance imo.

The only thing that really pisses me off is when we can't celebrate being English i.e St.George's Day because it might offend the immigrants :S that is really just crazy!!
