It seems pretty obvious that Bad Company 2 is going to be the next big game for us, and since it's due to be released next week I think we ought to talk about getting a game server for it :). If we can have a server at launch, then we'll stand a good chance of having a constant flow of regulars.

Unfortunately, INXGaming.co.uk are still in discussion with EA and so we will not be able to get a sponsored server from them. This means that there are a couple of factors we need to consider. Firstly, we need to decide how many slots we want (I only play on 32 man servers, but that could just be me) and how we are going to pay for it. A 32 man ranked server costs near enough £30/month from most providers.

My initial idea is to make admins pay at least £1/month (note, you can't BUY admin), but I don't think that would help unless we had at least 15 admins. I don't know how willing you all are to pay a little more, but I'd appreciate all comments below.

I just resubbed wow and payed for my house next year so I don't have a lot of money to spare. However, I wouldn't mind paying a few £ a month because it would be nice to have our own server, especially if we can get it popular.

nothing i can really say about how to pay for it, but i must say it has to be a hardcore server :)

Thanks Phantom, Mr.Big would you be willing to pay a few £ per month? I'm not sure about having a hardcore server, I found that it was just too easy to die. I did only play it for a 10 mins or so though.

Perhaps we should start on normal mode then see if they've improved it so that you don't have to empty a whole clip into someone?

When I eventually decide to get BC2 instead of a new screen, I'll have money to donate.

Oh, and the idea of hardcore is that you die easily, Chalex XD :p

I wouldnt mind helping out, Ah jeez Cal you actually started paying for that life drainer again?

VH- Chalex's point was that hes hoping that the normal mode is balanced more in terms of death rather than just going to the hardcore as a solution

I don't have the patience to start from level 1 again, done it too many times and stopped around level 40. I'm leveling my warrior to 80 at the moment, it's actually quite fun. I could transfer when you get to 80 though if its a good server, im on Bronzebeard and it sucks, 5:1 alliance:horde and it's a non pvp server.

Oh and Trigger get on steam.

Well, i usually end up with a 2 or 3 kd ratio on hardcore.
No srsly i hate normal since you need SO MUCH FUCKING AMMO TO KILL. i mean its like ppl are behind 10inches of armor and your holding a bb gun

Agree with Biggie Smalls on this one. Unfortunatly, console doesn't allow us to switch to HC mode yet, will have to try PC version later on in the week. Been getting a KDR of about 6 to 6.5 on Normal, so relishing the chance for HC mode now.

it only takes a few shots biggie, even on regular.

And I'm all for a BC2 server, provided it runs decent maps and dosen't lag (which considering our usual hosts's reputation, it shouldn't)

Guess we just need to find out which maps are good now, eh? Really hope the beta map dosen't make that list... if that turns out to be one of the better maps, I will be disapointed.

Maybe only a few shots WITH A SNIPER RIFLE!

Getting back on topic - I think we should hold off on the server for now. If INX are in negotiations, we should play servers which are not ours for now, and then when INX get it sorted with EA, we should then decide if we want one, because if there is a crapton of empties, ours will just join that list. However, if there is a need for ranked servers, then we could consider getting one.

The last I heard from INX was that they weren't getting any response from EA when they inquired about being a certified ranked provider. I don't know why, as INX is one of the biggest GSPs in the UK. As a result of EA being noobish, we're going to need to rely on another GSP for the time being.

I also think that if we don't hop on the server bandwagon on RELEASE DAY, then we might as well just not bother. This is a golden opportunity for ATK to get an active server again, which could easily attract new members and then make paying for the server much easier.

Also, I think it actually is a good idea to start the server off on hardcore. Even if we end up changing it to normal, there won't be as many hardcore servers at release, so we stand a chance of being noticed.

In terms of the cost, I'm willing to cover it for at least a month, just to see how it goes. If it turns out to be popular, I'd appreciate donations from you guys and if it goes south then we can just cancel it and pub normally. I'll buy a 32 slot.

Hmmm the only prob being that many people are at uni and dnt have time to game atm or dnt have a pc, to recruit new members would require people to actually come on ts, and as u dnt even do that chalex its prob not going to work.

I know where you're coming from, but since I'll be paying for the first month or so I'm definitely going to want to see it full all the time. So of course I'll be on TS a lot trying to make you guys go on :D. I also haven't properly played with a good squad of people on TS, which I really want to do.

Waiting until the summer woundn't be a good idea in my opinion, as that's when everyone will be sorting out new clan servers.

It's up to you - getting new peeps in would be a nice infusion, but how many did we get from having a CS server? And likewise on the squad point. I don't get a choice on the PS3 and I always get stuck with the nubs who act like lone wolfs, don't grab my medkit to res me and keep us all alive etc.

Yeh some good team play would be awesome... well I'm sure you'll have about 4/5 people that are on and you can easy recruit some more peeps in the first couple of weeks, its just finding people that are semi active and that are looking for a fairly casual team

heh, I used the Type 88 autosnipe with the 4x scope, remember? works pretty well for me.

EDIT: Oh, and you get to switch squads on the PC. DICE know that PC gamers won't be satisfied with the stuff the consoletards accept, remember?
