What is LeachLAN?
Being a social LAN, LeachLAN 5 is a great place to meet up with friends and chill out over a weekend with some fun, relaxing gaming. Open up some of the old classics, such as Mid Town Madness 2 and Red Alert 2 - but do not think that more recent games will be left untouched as more recent games such as Left 4 Dead 2 and DiRT 2 will also be played. Being on a LAN also allows for a lot of larger games and there is no better experience than taking part in big games like SourceForts, Armagetron or a bit of UT2004 which will be organised throughout the weekend.

For the competitive gamer there will also be a number of tournaments, where you can play against fellow attendees for the chance of LAN Glory. You could also win a few prizes along the way! The tournaments will be chosen by attendees of the event using our usual polling system on the forums to ensure you get the games you would like to play!

On the social side of things, there will be a FREE BBQ, the return of the PUB QUIZ and the opportunity to test out your backstabbing skills in our weekend long game of assassination! Join us for a party in celebration of two years of LeachLAN. Or you can chillout with your mates in in our social gaming area. There will also be many more opportunities to socialise with fellow gamers over the weekend!

Bring a newb?
You may have heard about our new bring a newb scheme that we introduced at LeachLAN 4, which allows anyone who is signed up and paid for LeachLAN 5, to bring a friend who has not been before, for a fiver! It proved to be a great success, and has returned for this event!

There are 10 "newb spaces" for this event, and they are available on a first come, first served basis! To find out more about "bring a newb", please see the LeachLAN 5 bring a newb post! (http://www.swlans.co.uk/2010/03/leachlan-5-bring-a-newb-for-a-fiver//) As we're beginning to accept newb bookings using the same way!

How much?
The event itself costs £40 for a BYOC space if you book before 1st June, and will be £50 thereafter

Book Here (http://www.swlans.co.uk/booking/)

Additional Services
Spectator entrance fee is £5 per day or £10 for the entire weekend.
Server co-location is available for the cost of £10 for the weekend.
Additional wired connection is available for £5 for the weekend.

Couple quick query's.

1) Was this ad allowed by a moderator?
2) What is the security provision at the event?
3) Do you have any notable sponsors?

We're planning to go to i40, I think two lans within a month and a half would be too much for most members :).

Just took a look at where it is, it's actually really close to where some of us live.

Although I think it's fine for someone to post about a LAN they're running, I don't necessarily agree with the very copy-paste block of text that we've been served.

Shazz, perhaps you could answer some of Oricalcos's questions?

Apologies for the late reply, last night was Pub Quiz night!

Security for your equipment is your own responsibility. However, we always have a member of staff on 24 hours a day, and due to it's location in the Cotswolds we have very little trouble with security. As this is a social LAN it has a huge community feel to it! Everyone knows everyone (or will get to know them during the weekend), and they take care of each others kit!

Sponsor wise, for LeachLAN 5 we have just confirmed sponsorship deals with SteelSeries, Crucial Memory and Inx-Gaming. And right now, I'm in the middle of a number of further agreements with other companies to sponsor this LeachLAN 5 :)

If you guys have any more questions, please fire away :)

To Shazz - Are there any other big communities that have a presence at the events? And on the console gaming area - do you mind if I bring a couple PS3 games with me and plonk those in to share with the masses, I doubt anyone will have played MLB 10 The Show (US-only baseball game, does work on UK PS3's), and I would quite like to actually play Madden with a human.

To the rest of ATK - Since I can't make i40 because of Reading, would anyone be open to attending this? Not entirely sure I'd go yet (depends if I can get my PC working in time), but I'd deffo be open to it if I could. I might just go for the console fact.

EDIT -

I'll think about it, but i40 drained a lot of my (read my parent's) money.. if I have enough I might go, seeing as it'll probably be the usual suspects that go rather than all of Piers' mates XD

There certainly are! We have a large bunch of regulars who have been coming since at least LeachLAN 2!

In no particular order;

COGS Bristol (Bristol Uni Gaming Soc)
Sect Gaming
%0|%0 (Surry Uni Gaming Soc, I believe)

Aside from this, we have a good 20 or so regulars who are not affiliated with any of these groups!

And feel free to, I have no idea what consoles we'll have in that area just yet! But I'll let you know :)

Shazz - looking at your site and teh FAQ about internet use, does this mean that we wouldnt be allowed to play games online?

Shazz - looking at your site and teh FAQ about internet use, does this mean that we wouldnt be allowed to play games online?

Some MMOs are unblocked for those who wish to have their MMO fix. Internet based game servers are generally blocked, some are opened up in specific cases, like a match or an event. However this is generally discouraged as we want you to play with the people at the lan. There are some rare exceptions to this, and over night we will be more lax and may allow more for that night on request. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to open the firewall for all games as some have very odd port restrictions.

Cheers for clearing those points up Shazz.

@ ATK - I'm pretty keen on going to this, but only if some other ATK'ers say they want to, and if I can get my PC up and running in time. Who's with me? Remember, I can't do i40

Just a thought, as I'd not posted this here yet. If you guys want to spread the cost around, you might be interested in our "bring a newb for a fiver" scheme!

Some of you would need to come at the full price, but then you could each bring one newb. Meaning you could spread the overall cost between the two of you!

Working at PC World? Talk about selling your soul to the devil :P. What happened to Call Center Spam?

I've decided that I will not attend this after all, considering the amount of stuff I've got planned over the summer (inc. pendulum 3 times :D), and the fact I've had a lol amount of time off work already, what with the US trip.
