Shogun 2: Total War

Well they've announced an expansion pack and a new game as well, though Shogun 2 from the sounds of it could shape up to be a lot of fun. No screenshots yet so here is a pretty picture.

Now THIS looks like a Total War I might be interested in. It sounds like they're really bringing the game back to the basics as well as really focusing on what they NEED in a game of this type. Also, a rock-paper-scissors mechanic? Could be interesting.

Most intriguing bit in my opinion is the sieges, sounds like with Shogun 2 they'll actually be fairly interesting rather than just having a square wall with an army on the inside and an army on the outside like with the previous games. It's good they're also bringing back night battles, one of the big things I missed from Med2 that isn't in Empire or Napoleon. And I wonder if Chalex would've shown as much interest if I had posted this...

Might give this a bash, kinda didn't like the newer total wars as Rome was pure win

Only one thing i can say to this

"About time too" - I've longed for a remake of the first Shogun Total War!, however the campaign would have to have some decent stuff in it because you can imagine the campaign being pretty short with just "Japan" in it.

Yeah that's one of the issues for me - part of the fun with Total War games, especially with Empire since it had the largest campaign map, is how vast the campaigns are, you can be fighting pirates in the Caribbean, claiming territory in India and having an all out war with another equally strong nation back in Europe all at the same time, and thus have to decide where you concentrate your resources. Shogun 2 is going to lose this aspect since the campaign essentially is happening over just one small island...

Yeh but it will make it easier for us casual players who can't spend days and days taking over Africa and the middle east :D

Or for people like me who spends all of their day conquering Africa and the Middle East and don't want to play a game about what we do in RL.

It looks like quite nice if you ask me. The water looks gorgeous.

Hmmm doesn't look as different to the previous titles as I thought it would, but the landscapes look sick and it's a nice touch having artwork on the unit cards rather than actual pictures of the unit. Plus I'm glad to see the return of night battles, something I really missed in Empire and Napoleon. Finally, is that a beach landing I see???
