Right, mates looking for a new PC under £600 to handle music editing and recording with a bit of gaming on the side (albeit only at 1024x768 =/), so been working on a spec the past day or 2 to see what I can come up with, this is what I got so far

Anyone got any suggestions/ideas on what could be changed? No soundcard is needed as he's using an external interface.

Build log will happen when all the parts arrive too :)

On another note, have moved PC stuff upstairs which means I've lost the use of my parents 19" as a secondary display, so this means I'm on the hunt for a new one to be a primary and have my current 24" as the extended.

Its been narrowed down to either the HP ZR24w (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-3884471-4101131.html) for roughly £330 or a Dell U2311H (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=320-9270) for £260. Is a hard call between them as the ZR24w is a 16:10 ratio monitor and the same res as my current one, meaning I get slightly more space vertically (which can be a godsend at times) however it's more expensive and I've heard tales of Uniformity issues. The U2311H is only 23" and is 16:9 aspect ("1080p") meaning I loose vertical space, however I've not heard of that bad issues and you get Dells pretty awesome warranty and build quality, plus I'm left with change from £300.

Or has anyone else got any suggestions for 23/24" screens? IPS preferably.

How much is he willing to spend on a monitor? He could get the same as mine for under £150.

Looks like a good spec to me.

Well it's for me, and my budget's a max of £350 only if the screen's worth it, ideally I'd like an IPS panel.

Yeah.

Was pretty much sold on the ZR24w although dad is tempted to buy my current 24" screen for £140 so I may just splurge and buy 2x U2311H's haha

Just ordered this lot, went for 2 of the Dell U2311H's and will have another 19" sat next to them for a triple set up!

£1062 in 5 minutes haha
