View Full Version : Post your Photography Kit!

A lot of us have now got into the photography scene, so we definitely need this thread to post all the lenses/kit etc that we have!

As some of you have gathered, I've just bought myself some camera kit :D. Here it is:

Canon EOS 550D Body
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon 430EX MKII Speedlite
Stofen Omni-Bounce EW (diffuser)
Marumi 72mm Lens Protect Filter
Marumi 72mm CIR Polarizer
Sandisk Extreme 16GB SDHC Card (30mbs)
Hama Rexton 170 BLK Shoulder Bag
Hahnel Canon HL-E8 Battery (for the 550D)

The speedlite is fantastic for indoors, and really helps to soften skin tones and lighten up the area rather than just the subject. I tend to face it 45 degrees up so it bounces off the ceiling. I haven't experimented much with the polarizer yet, so I'll get on that soon.

I've been playing around with lightroom and it's a brilliant tool. I've processed one picture so far (photoshop was used too):

You bought all of that and you've never had a DSLR before? I bet VoX will be jealous. Nice pic, looking at the tree makes me look dizzy.

I bet VoX will be jealous.

Just of the body and the flash (Ok, and maybe the 15mm at the wide end :p)

Scuse the appalling phone camera;

http://i.imgur.com/KYXB7.jpg

Canon EOS 1000D Body
Photix BG-E5 Battery grip (Pretty much a direct clone of the Canon BG-E5, but £40 odd less)
Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS + Lens hood.
Canon EF 50mm II f/1.8
Canon 28-80mm USM f/3.5-5.6 + 58mm UV Filter
Canon EF 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 (Sold it however)
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 + 58mm UV Filter (Old kit lens, no longer used)
Generic manual macro extension tubes
Hoya 52mm Polarizer
Hoya 58mm Polarizer

Really need to get a 72mm UV filter for my 18-200mm, there's only so much the hood can do to protect. Next up to buy is an external flash, current one is appalling and on-board doesn't reach over the new lens lol, looking at either YN-468 or the 430 EX II, currently swaying to the YN due to cost.

Like the colours in that shot Alex, you shooting RAW or jpeg btw?

Also, photo meet anyone? :D

Oh gaawwd, Chalex I just read the email I got saying you added me on Flickr, which I thought was strange since I didn't think I had Flickr... went on my account and found out I signed up what must've been around 5 or 6 years ago to use it to upload Gmod comics when I was part of PHW... jeez that was before BRS.

Thanks guys, I took that particular picture in JPEG by accident but it turned out OK! I'm been using RAW+L since then which works much more nicely in Lightroom.

I'm up for a meetup, but probably won't be able to do it for quite a while as coursework deadlines etc are approaching wayyyy to fast :p.

Perhaps a summer meetup then when we've all got a bit more time and traveling won't be a major issue if people are able to stay places?

Hopefully doing a shoot with a model (read; friend) tomorrow so was in need of a little fill light, politely asked a friend and...

Oh nicceee, the 580. That's an expensive one :p. I REALLY want to get into model photography, but I think I need some more lights.

Perhaps I'll buy some speedlights and a wireless receiver when I have some more cash.

I know, is really nice too :p.

You can get away with a single flash as a fill and natural light, although saying that, using the strobe heads and umbrellas etc we have at school, it is nice to be able to completely control the light.

Planning to do the same thing though, a few YN-468's and receivers along with umbrellas and you can get quite a nice studio set up for <£200. Only thing to be careful with model photography, is at least one of you need to know what you want otherwise you end up stood there staring at each other hunting for ideas.

(400D, 550D, 50D, 7D all gripped. 50/1.4, 50/1.8, 100/2.8, 18-55mm IS, 28-80mm USM, Sigma 18-200mm DC OS, Canon 18-200mm IS and a Canon 75-300mm)

Add a 500D, 2x 580EX II's to that and a 35L (arriving tomorrow) and that's the kit me and a mate are using for a shoot this weekend, any guesses what we're covering? ;)

Oooo, would like to give a D700 a go, full frame for a decent price. Have used a D3s a few times and it was godly, but has a price to match :(

Was going to try and think of some witty comment, or put a picture of some shitty camera up, but this thread doesn't even deserve that.

Thanks lol, tbh it was an impulse buy because it was so cheap (staff discount) so I don't actually have many plans for it lol. Suppose a few wedding stuff here and there.

Still the 50D, but normally end up borrowing a 7D for anything that's paying me lol. You still on the 550D + 15-85? Really need to sort out the London meet with you and Gary lol....
