View Full Version : The 1st ATK Starcraft 2 Tournament

Isphera
6th July 2011, 02:15 PM
As I eluded to earlier, this is the first event announcement of the summer – the ATK StarCraft 2 Tournament!

StarCraft 2 has become one of the most popular games in the community in recent months, including several very good players for us such as Moeshi and Calneon. The pro circuit is one of the most popular in the world, with nearly a thousand people watching at the event as Liquid.HuK won the Summer Dreamhack tournament, and with streamers such as Day[9] becoming internet celebrities because of the game. Back on an ATK level, many of us have wanted to arrange a tournament style event for a while and current circumstances allow us to finally do so.

Sign-ups are now closed. It may be possible for late entries, but this will be at the discretion of the tournament organizers. Please keep discussion in this thread limited to the tournament.

Entrants

Terran Players
CILLIT BANG (withdrawn)
Isphera
Foulkez

Protoss Players
Jenzor (withdrew prior to group stage)

Zerg Players
Moeshi
Calneon
Joe
Setsoru

Random Players
Vicious

Rules

You play each person from your group once in a match consisting of three games.

Those three games are to take place on maps in the map pool (below).

Before a match, each players bans one map, and the games are played on the maps remains.

The three games are played regardless of wins in the first two.

After the match, the result is reported to this thread or as a PM to myself.

The 'random' race option is defined as the random race selection in-game, not the selection of a race for each match.

One point is awarded for a game win.

In the event of a tiebreak on points, match wins will be used. If this is the same, then whoever won the matchup between the two during the stage will rank above.

There is to be no spectating in any game for the tournament, unless both players agree to it before the match.

Replays can be uploaded here, but are not required.

In the event of a results dispute, replays will be demanded.

The top two from each group will advance to the winners KO bracket. It will be seeded 1 to 4 based on points total. Seed 1 will play Seed 4, and Seed 2 will play Seed 3. The winners of each match will play in the final. The losers will play in the 3rd Place match. Semi finals will be Bo3, with one map banned each. The final and third place match will be Bo5 with no map bans.

Everyone else will advance to the losers KO bracket. It will be seeded 1 to 4 based on points total. Seed 1 will play Seed 4, and Seed 2 will play Seed 3. The winners will play in the losers bracket final. The losers will play the wooden spoon match. The last place playoff and semi finals will be Bo3, with one map banned each. The final and wooden spoon match will be Bo5 with no map bans.

Oric, if names are ordered in seeding, or 'perceived skill', shouldn't Fred be above you seeing as he beat you?

Oric, if names are ordered in seeding, or 'perceived skill', shouldn't Fred be above you seeing as he beat you?

I removed the seeding because they were unnessecery. But when they were in, my seeding was 8 - at the time, last. The names now are simply sorted by race and then time entered. Same could be said on Zerg if seedings were in place with Cal/Moeshi

EDIT - Just realised I didn't take out the sentance explaining it when I took out the seedings - resolved.

The tournament will likely start on the 18th July and be done in phases for group matches. More details will be decided later in the week.

Preliminary group organisations have been posted. If you feel any of the groups are imbalanced, then do say.

Why do we have winner/loser brackets when no games have been played?

Why do we have winner/loser brackets when no games have been played?

It's just to show what bracket each position in the table puts you in. It's there just to make it easier to see later on - it bears no correlation at this moment in time.

Added in.

With my 3-0 loss to Marshy this evening, the tournament has officially begun. Sign-ups will remain open until tomorrow for any late entries.

Whilst not crucial for running, replays for each match would be appreciated - just upload them in a rar to ATK Files.

Put onto the spreadsheet - I'll update the groups when we have a couple matches to actually put on there.

With this post, all sign-ups are now closed. Any late entries to the tournament may still apply, but are not assured of entry.

Vicious is now running the tournament.

Calneon
13th July 2011, 10:29 PM
Given that everyone seems to think I'm not the person that should be running tournaments, I am hearby relinquishing control to Vicious, since he apparently wants to do it. The spreadsheet, organisation and all rule decisions now reside with him. I am also hearby withdrawing for the tournament.
Wut. You're clearly the best for running tournaments.

Guys can we continue playing games? I've only got 3 games logged, all 3 of which involve Marshy, which looks like noone else is interested.

I'm removing the different tables of players, so it's now a free-for-all style tournament, this should increase the number of games played, and final placement will be judged by number of points after all games have been completed.

Isphera
26th July 2011, 10:03 PM
Well, looks like these fell by the way side when I took my 'break' from the tournaments and events. No matter, let's get this going again.

Remember, the format is;

One point is awarded for a game win.

In the event of a tiebreak on points, match wins will be used. If this is the same, then whoever won the matchup between the two during the stage will rank above.

There is strictly no spectating in any game for the tournament.

Everyone else will advance to the losers KO bracket. To eliminate the 5 down to four, the last placed players in each group will play a 3-map match in order to determine who will take the fourth seed in the bracket. Aside from this, seeds 1 to 3 will be based on points total. Seed 1 will play Seed 4, and Seed 2 will play Seed 3. The winners will play in the losers bracket final. The losers will play the wooden spoon match.

I assume in which case oric you're back?

If so Marshy you have those 3 points back :)

Isphera
27th July 2011, 11:35 AM
Yes and yes. The reason for the dispute over those points was not completly iterated beforehand and was not fully developed on here, regardless of the stage of discussions with people on Mumble, so I decided to award those points as won. Hopefully, the publication of the rules above will now clarify what is allowed for future matches.

As always, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Vicious Horizon
27th July 2011, 02:08 PM
I meant the points I removed from Marshy due to you dropping out, I had to take away the win points from him in that match (as they were points unobtainable, or not obtainable by anyone else).

But yes, well, I don't exactly need to e-mail you anything up to date as noone bothered to play any more games after this point.

Are you re-instating the groups system now? From your post I assume this is what you are planning on doing :)

Isphera
27th July 2011, 04:14 PM
Fair enough. And yes, I will be doing so. If it gets to the point where people aren't playing, I'll start DQing and flipping coins for outcomes. :D

Intended to play the series vs. Vicious yesterday, but the first match was an intense 51-minute behemoth, so we will carry on today. The replay would be well worth watching:

I'm still waiting for the group two games, essentially being all of the group requiring to play Freddie, as well as Set - Joe. I know some are away, and some dispensation will be given, but I am now setting a firm deadline of Saturday 27th to get those matches done. If they are not done so, then I will either DQ the people not playing games and/or random number generate the result of games.

Once these matches are played, please report them to me ASAP.

Probably.

Isphera

Precisely :D.

Final matches and semi-finals before hand, and then we do finals on the Saturday/Sunday. Losers bracket first, then 3rd/4th, and then the big showdown.

Isphera

Ok, since I'm not at i43 tomorrow, but those who have matches left are, can they be completed before I get there on the Saturday so we can run though the final KO matches ASAP.
