View Full Version : What do you want from gaming nights?

First post as the new Gaming Manager (to be fair, it's what I do at the moment but with a new title :D), so I just want to say thank you to those that helped decide for me to continue in the role and I hope to keep doing what I have been, which is promote tournaments, gaming events and the like to help ATK grow and be fun to be a part of.

Which is why I am making this post. The last gaming night was very poorly attended, and it was largely due to the time chosen to do it. So rather than try and schedule it around myself, I am asking you to tell us when you would like your gaming nights.

We would also like to know what games you want to play in them - the obvious choices of CSS, TF2 and LoL are naturally going to be staples of the event, but what about lesser known games, free-to-play's, or possibly spontaneous tournaments.

So essentially, and in tl;dr form, this is what we are looking for in a potential gaming night:

A minimum of an hour of gameplay set aside
End of the week times (Fri-Sun) ideally
Something to set it apart from other games created during the week.
Varied and whacky games to play (but ones which many own)

When thinking of a time, consider a week where your slammed with busy stuff, and you just want to schedule an hour a week regularly to blow off some steam and blow off people's heads, and not just your nothing to do summer schedule.

Let us know! All suggestions can be posted in the thread below or e-mailed to me at the shiny new contact address - gaming <at> atkcommunity.com

I meant in terms of specific time periods that you'd generally be free for the forseeable future e.g I'd like it to be an hour or two between 7-10 on Sunday evenings because even with Uni, sport etc., I'll usually be free around then.

Yeah a sunday sounds good to be honest, it's when most people are just sitting around at home and can get on, if you can get up some schedule for the games we will play on which sunday would be cool.

Whenever really, think when I'm actually back at uni it will be weekends and some week days, not sure yet though depends on my timetable and if I get a job sorted. Saying that though never really do much at weekends at uni so I'll prob be on pretty much all day sat and sunday.

Sundays might not work for me most of the time, but then I probably won't go to many anyway so it's a moot point. :p

I think many of us would want that. But that aside, I get the feeling that Sunday evenings would be the most popular time for stuff like this. If that's so, what times would you like to see it at and what games would you want played? (Try to sugggest non-obvious choices, like DoD:S from Hutch, many own, few play regularly)

YES. ATK needs to have more meetups other than the iSeries.

Ok......

Before I start drawing up gaming night plans for the future, does anyone have any final suggestions to make regarding any aspect of it?

Remind people before they happen, and not 1 hour before it starts :)

That was a flaw in the past, one which I wish had been minimised. Hopefully with the establishment of a set time for the gaming night each week, people will be aware of it. This, combined with the new advertising methods we will employ, should boost attendance dramatically.

Look for the first one to be the week after i43.

Sunday would be a good day or Saturday. Minecraft PVP arena would be fun seeing as you can have a lot of players on and most people have that game.

OR a minecraft RPG thing you could download it and we could try complete it, these things are not designed for a lot of people but from what I seen from yogscast.

Or Poker? :)

sorry my ideas are poo :P

No idea is a bad idea Brendan :D

Poker would be a little difficult to do and I don't think many would be interested in it (I certainly would though :D), but the Minecraft stuff can deffo be considered at some point.
