**PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING MONEY FOR THE ATK T-SHIRT TO I31**
=== WHAT TO TAKE ===
Here is a list of all the stuff you should take to i31 (based off i31 website and knowledge from previous LANs) - since we are not participating in any competitions I have not included any information regarding that:
Requirements For Entry
Your booking ID (5 digits)
Photo ID (Drivers Licence or Passport)
Parental Consent Form (if under 16 years of age)
Computer Gear
Your PC (base unit / tower / shuttle )
Monitor
VGA / DVI cable
Keyboard + Mouse
Mouse mat
Headphones (no speakers!)
Power cables for both your PC and monitor
A four-way power strip (you will need this)
All your games + CD Keys!
Windows + antivirus reinstall CDs (just in case!)
Personal Items
A tent
Sleeping bag
Towel
Wash kit
Pillow
Watch
Torch (for finding your tent in the dark!)
Food + soft drinks (no alcohol)
Fork and spoon for ice cream etc.
Mug for drinks
Lots of money (about £100)
--> pizza is about £10, you will want some money spare for emergencies
--> remember to have enough extra to pay for the ATK t-shirt
Extras
Mobile phone & charger
Camera
The official ATK shirt will be given to you at i31.
Regarding food, there is always stuff you can buy but it would be wise to bring a bottle of water and some soft drinks. In the evening, everyone orders Pizza from Papa Johns who are usually based in the Grand Stand. They take your order then deliver it to your desk about an hour later. For the morning, it is a good idea to bring cereal bars and stuff like that, although I think you can buy various breakfast things containing bacon ;) .
It would also be a good idea to take crisps and biscuits because it is always great to have some snacks at hand when you get peckish.
=== WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT i31 ===
I will be arriving between 11-12 am with Chazlene and there is no real rush to get there any earlier (nothing happens until later on). Once you arrive, park as close as you can get to the front, leave your PC stuff in the car, and go to the Grandstand taking your passport and booking number with you. You will be given a wrist band THAT YOU MUST NOT TAKE OFF and a neck pass with your reference number, nickname, name and seat number on it.
Once you have all that, go back to your car, grab as much PC stuff you can carry, and make your way to the 1st floor of the Berkshire stand, your place will have a piece of A4 on it, with your nickname, clan, and real name on it - there are also the instructions that are below. Unless you are getting dropped off, it would then be a good idea to move your car into a proper parking space. Unless everyone is already there, you should set up your PC and wait for everyone else to arrive. Once EVERYONE is there and vaigely set up, we will grab our tent equipment and find a place to pitch, please do not do that before we are all there, otherwise we will all be separated.
=== NETWORK & RULES ===
Please remember that you will be given this information again at i31, so you don't need to do it before you go. Just remember to disconnect your PC from the network at i31 and follow the steps below:
Getting Onto The Network
1) In Windows head to "My Network Places" and "Network Connections".
2) Right click on your LAN connection and click properties.
3) Turn off "File and Printer Sharing" by un-checking the box.
4) Highlight "TCP/IP" and click "Properties".
5) Make sure that "obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both selected.
6) Click OK to get out of the connection properties.
7) Find the network cable taped to your desk. If you can't find it, check underneath. Plug it into your PC.
i-Scan and Blackholes
At the i-Series we use a system called i-Scan that constantly monitors the network for activity we have disallowed. Your PC will automatically be "blackholed" (in other words, disconnected) from the network if i-Scan picks up on any activity that is not allowed. If you get blackholed you will need to come to the helpdesk to get yourself back on the network.
Things That Will Get You Blackholed
• Filesharing, open shares on drives or folders or transfers of any files over the network.
• Running FTP, Webservers and other services that may be used for filesharing
• iTunes music shares
• Abnormal and potentially dangerous network activity (DDoS attacks, worm behaviour etc)
Joining Games
The i-Series uses real IP addresses (not NAT) for the network, as such local servers need to be "internet servers", or else only the people on your switch will be able to see it.
We run public servers for you at the LAN so to find a server for your game, search for "internet servers" not LAN ones, otherwise you won't see anything. You won't be able to see real internet servers as they will be blocked.
If there isn't a server for the game you want to play then come and see us in the server area on the ground floor of the Grandstand and we'll be more than happy to put one up for you.
If you are having any trouble making your own servers come and see us on the helpdesk.
Staff Roles
Yellow: Event/Tech Support
Red: Tournament Admin
Blue: Core network/servers
=== SPECIAL GUESTS ===
The 2 special guests that I am looking forward to the most are:
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is not only on the horizon but it's looming larger than a Strogg Tetranode and will be just as cool. We were privileged enough to get a sneak peak at ET:QW at our i30 event in March and what we saw excited us beyond belief. Several months of development later and Activision are back again to give us yet another look at ET:QW - this time it should be almost at the "gold" stage so fingers crossed we'll be seeing a much more polished version than the Alpha that we saw back in April.
For those not in the know, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is the spiritual successor to Enemy Territory but set in the Quake universe, as opposed to the WWII era as seen in Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory. Teamwork is essential as players choose a specialised class and role in their team and work together to capture territory and complete mission objectives.
Don't miss this at i31 - it's going to be a huge deal when it's released, don't you want to be able to say that you saw it first?
-------------------------------------------
Crysis barely needs an introduction but for those who aren't aware of this monster title, looming on the horizon, then allow EA to show you just what they have in store for you.
Set twelve years into the future a massive asteroid has crashed to Earth and the nations of the world break out in war over who controls the territory it lands in. As we squabble and bicker the asteroid breaks open to reveal alien life inside.
The aliens being to control the weather, freezing various parts of the island it landed on and humanity must stop its petty arguments and turn towards the new common enemy.
Using CryENGINE 2 technology, Crysis was amongst the first titles to announce it was using advanced DX10 architecture. This is going to be eye candy with icing on it.
