• Hardware Buyers Guide: Late September 2012

Welcome to the section I'm sure most of you will skip straight to.
This PC will mix the best value with upgradability, overclockability - and a decent looking case.
Expect a worthy gaming system you wont be ashamed of at LAN.

    Hardware Item Price
    Case Inwin Griffin Black £35.46
    CPU i5 3570k OEM £169.40
    Motherboard MSI Z77-G41 £64.52
    RAM Corsair Vengance 8GB (4x2) £31.99
    GPU PNY 660Ti 2GB £227.59
PSU Antec True Power 750W £70.50
Cooler Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro £24.18
    Hard Drive Seagate 1TB 7200RPM £55.18
    Optical Drive Samsung DVD-RW £12.95
    SSD 64GB Sandisk Ultra £41.57
    Total £733.34

We move on to an Intel based system! I picked the Ivybridge i5 CPU, as for gaming hyper-threading isn't necessary and the i5 a lot less money than the i7.

This time we are going for a custom cooler, and the Freezer 13 Pro represents great value for money, and a relatively easy install. Be looking to get a good overclock on your i5 with that cooler.

Again I've included a 1TB hard disk, but now you have a 64GB last generation SSD for your boot drive. You'll see marked improvements in general use of Windows. And space for your favorite game or 2 on there.

Also to keep the inside nice and tidy you have a nice modular PSU.You have a mid-top end GPU now too, which should be plenty of power to play all of the latest games on at least reasonable settings.

Top that off with dual channel 1600MHz RAM and a decent looking case, and you've got a PC any gamer would be happy to call their own, all for under £750.

nice, but what would you recommend as a modular power supply 750 watt or is that one a modular.

The Antec True Power 750W One I recommended is Semi-Modular.

It has the motherboard cables directly attached, but the drives and the pci-e are modular

hmm seems legit, thats kind of what iam thinking but i was thinking fully modular because i'm thinking of going for a full tower and i wanted the wires to look neat.

I personally have a Thermaltake Toughpower which is a good PSU. Its the same as the antec one being semi modular.

At the end of the day you have to have the motherboard / cpu power in your PC either way so it didn't concern me that all cables weren't modular. If you want one fully modular there are a fair bit more expensive, but they have the nice novelty of being able to position without any cables being in the way.

Could there be a request section to these guides, for instance a specific price tag for pc or set of components?

      Otherwise, its a great thread

Sure Target, thats a good idea.

A day before I post the next one, I'll make a thread asking what people want advice on, and add that to the build guide.
