So it begins - upgrades part 1
as some of you know know im planning to build a new pc in the next month or so, but with the launch of the new ati cards i cant resist buying the first round now xD
Im geting 2 6950's in crossfire as the value for money they offer is staggering.

(performance index is representative of the average fps / cost - and each fps column is a different game)

Im also going to get a shiney new screen. Im planning on a dell U2711 right now:

To summarize its a 27" 2,560 x 1,440 ips display.
Im going to be buying this on monday so if anyone has any thoughts please post below :)
Re: So it begins - upgrades part 1
Should be absolutely amazing. ATI naming structures are getting out of hand though, why is the 5000 series better than the 6000 series?
Re: So it begins - upgrades part 1
My only thought is that the U2711 is bloody amazing and that I am incredibly jealous :D.

Its not. The 69xx cards are better.
the first digit just defines the generation. second defines the level of performance and 3rd defines sub catagories.
phantom, how do you find the input lag on your IPS. its the only bad thing ive read really people saying it is noticeable if you play FPS games?
Considering i mostly play wow now its not that much of a deal to me but just wanted to know.

Thought that graph at the top of your link was FPS benchmark, nevermind.
Input lag isn't noticeable to me.

cool ty for the info.
Looking forward to getting it all now :P
Also - jsut found out that the monitor supports 30-bit deep colour, which is 1.07 billion colours (64 times that of std 24 bit), unfortunatley most non workstation gfx cards dont support 30 bit colour..... BUT WAIT! THE NEW 6900 SERIES DO!! :D
Re: So it begins - upgrades part 1
They only do if you use a displayport connection ;). (Which you can lol)
Anyway, we demand pics of new shizz :D

Damn, I knew my reign as king of awesomesauce PC wouldn't last long ;D
Re: So it begins - upgrades part 1
What's the deal with showing MW2 capped at 60fps to demonstrate your awesome PC power? Lets see some 3DMark or Crysis or Metro 2033 or SOMETHING other than a badly ported console game :).

I didnt show anythign to demonstrate the pcs awesome power - vox nagged me for pics and id just installed windows.
Its Black ops not MW2 btw.
Also its not finshed yet as i dont have a new processor.
Will 3dmark it when ig et back to newcastle whenever that is, as the server is there all my files like 3dmark arent with me in cumbria.
I can play BC2 @ 2560x1440 with everything set to max in the game and not experience noticeable fps drop ever if thats anything to go on.
EDIT: Downaloded 3dmark vantage. here:
