Cheers. The lines were a strobing LED torch being waved about, mainly there as we got bored simply painting the car, so wanted to make it a bit more interesting and get some decent reflections in the car. Plus I needed something random to fit in with the theme "Mystery and Imagination" for exam work.
We're doing again later in the week with a few other cars (hopefully without the shopping trolleys in the background) so anything you think might work better than the random lights?
Would look awesome, but I lack a smoke machine :(
Different (and rather filthy) car, using a softbox and coloured lights this time :D

And tonight it looks like a fire engine will be the subject :D
Those are sick Vox, could seriously see those actually being in a car advert on a billboard or something.
Cheers guys, lacking access to any properly nice cars atm though, need to build up a few contacts, car dealerships would be perfect but can't see that happening being 17.
Tonight could be a challenge, fire engines are big and have a lot of areas light could miss. Looks like I'll need all the torches we've got and to implore the help of a few of the station staff lol.
Agree wiht the above comments. Very well shot.
If the fire engine ones go well i think you should contact some major car compaines if you'd be interested lol xD. don't tell them your age unles they ask to interview you or summit, but with pictures like that you could get offered a full time job as a photographer from a company like ford etc
Thanks Piers.
Yeah I'm tempted to contact a dealership or something, even if its just prints they want for artwork in the showroom/offices or something it would be an income with potential for future work. Age would be a non mention unless they asked for interviews as you said, would just get Dad or someone to pick the cars up xD.
Cheers, just need to sort out driving etc and should all be ok.
From what I learnt last night: Fire trucks are huge and therefore you need longer exposures. Fire trucks are huge therefore they can't be put into many secluded places meaning ambient light is a BITCH to work with. Fire trucks are huge therefore focusing on the entire vehicle with light proves a challenge as swirls etc need to be larger (harder with the aforementioned ambient light issue). When shooting inside the hanger to get away from the ambient light, the fire truck is huge so therefore occupies most of the hanger meaning you can't get many details in and you're limited by space and your widest focal length (need a 10-22mm desperately). Fire trucks are huge so when they're sat outside flashing blues you attract a nice bit of attention from Joe public. Did I mention fire trucks are huge?
I've done better imho, would love to be able to do this again but in a darker location, or even on location at a fire (they didn't get a shout when we were there, shame as there could have been a few decent shots to have been had.) I did get to play with a thermal imaging camera though, which was pretty fun :D

Then we moved on to do something more familiar, cars. Arrive at Morrisons carpark to find it closed due to them not being open today (Easter Sunday) so had to go in one at the side, which had more ambient light, not helped that we were both tired from having been dancing around a fire truck for the past hour and a half.

Win edit.
Also: S&M photography? You know what it means right?
Yes, yes we do lol. Just the combination of my surname and the guy I normally work withs surname.
Got round to uploading these photos from Cotsworld Wildlife Park. Little to no editing (except crop and sharpen) on most of them.

Absolutely no colour correction on this one, this is exactly how it came out of the camera.

Love 1, 9 and 10, shame about the reflections(?) in 4, polarizing filter would have been a god send there.
Did you use on-board flash for 3? If you did then dialing in a little bit of negative flash exposure can stop it causing harsh shadows. Either way don't think it detracts and is still a good shot :).
Nice use of DOF on all of them too.
Ahhh okies.
Damn, there is some really nice shots there, VoX. I'll link to a few once I upload my last shoot. Some from Newcastle, when I was seeing Mitch and some from London, when I stayed at a friends flat, with a breathtaking view of London and the river Thames.
If they're the ones I've just seen on Flickr, niiiiice.
Just realized I never posted this.
Screw DSLRs, heat cameras are where it's at :P

Well it's been a while....
This first shot was funny, took the shot and quickly walked away and heard her calling about "No photo", silly foreigners.

The first and third are good, the rest I'm not so sure. Are you using a different lense? Some of the shots look disproportioned.
1st and 3rd were with a 100mm f/2 prime. The rest were shot with a 10-20mm lens, mainly at 10mm, hence the distortion lol. And thanks :)
NO PHOTO
Pretty much all I really got from Devon, though I didn't really use my camera much.

Caught the sun at a perfect time there, colour came out as good as you can hope
He lives! And cheers mate :)
Haha!
Kit varies based on what I can borrow from school, my stuff is Canon 50D, 50mm 1.8 and a Sigma 18-200mm. Regularly steal a 100mm f/2, 580EXII and Sigma 10-20mm from school, and that above shot was done on a mates 7D because we cba changing the tripod slide over so just switched cards lol
