I think i have a way of seeing who has what. When you select to play in arena and see the opponent options, open a new tab and use this url:

but replace the part in bold with the character's name. That should take you to their cell and you can see what they have.
I think I was unlucky, i have loads of strength but still only hit for 5 with fists and ~8 with my stick. I've come across people with weapons that do 70 dmg lol (look at this http://sturfpwns.mybrute.com/tf/244828).
I uhh, have: a sword, a club and an axe. Shit, my guy likes weapons.
Phantom that guy who killed you, I have that same weapon and I can one hit K.O people lol. My guy also has 10 speed so he attacks 3 times before the other player even hits me once.

lol the club is amazing like 40 a hit, 2hits most things :P and myn has 108 health so lasts ages :P

U get stuff completely randomly.
Sigh so really its too basic to be fun :(, its luck of the draw on battles and if you dont get something good at the start your fooked.
the only real way of getting something good is by having 10 guys and picking which one had the best random roll.
Basically if ur lucky u will own an if not ur cannon fodder unless u get really lucky in the battles :P
