Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/me...line_cover.jpg
The Open Beta just started at 6pm today, so try to grab a key for yourself wherever you can!
Fileplanet has quite a few, but some more may appear on the official page soon!
After you have your beta key, you'll need to make sure you have a login at the official website. You can use those login details to use the patcher which you can download from the ATK Download Area. Once you've installed the patcher, you'll start downloading the ~8GB file. You'll find that any other links are dog slow.
The Open Beta will end on January 26, 2010. Here is some more information about what you can do in the Open Beta:
Quote:
Open Beta will start with characters restricted to playing Federation and Klingon sectors only. You will not be able to access Romulan, Cardassian, or Borg space until we update a little later on into the Beta.
In addition, all players will hit a level cap at 16 - which will allow you to complete all missions available in your respective sectors. You'll be unable to spend new skillpoints until we open up the other sectors. We ask that you play through all of the content you can find available to you. This will ensure coverage of everything in the sectors before you move on. You will progress enough to advance past your initial ship and into and through your first tier Cruiser, Escort, or Science vessel.
The servers are warming up and we're all very excited to open the doors and let you experience Star Trek Online.
See you online!

29% and its been going for around 5-6 hours.
Looks like I'm in it for the long haul. :/

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
I've played the game for half an hour, and it's definitely rough around the edges like you'd expect a beta to be. There is definitely potential though with this, but I certainly feel that the graphics need to be shined up a little bit.

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Yeah, the menus don't feel polished at all and the actual graphics aren't great. I only made a character then stopped so I can't say much yet.
-
Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
I've preordered it, and since I can't get on until next week, it's good to hear it has potential.
BTW - I'll be creating a Vulcan.

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Downloaded it, but unfortnately it needs to patched now so guess I'm waiting still.
From what I know it as people have said, has potential, though the ground combat is meant to be weak. But is meant to be sufficiently different from other MMO's and sufficiently Star Trekky enough.

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
After playing it for a few hours, I can say the game is great fun, and filled with wonderful geeky tidbits for any trekkies out there, the entire starting sequence does seem something out of a star trek plot.
Also Bajorans for the win, they've included their epic earrings!

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Death??? how was this game? by the appear of this thread suffering from death i take it that it was not very epic?
-
Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Well I might buy it one day, but to be honest, if no one here is... I probably won't.
(Though I could always join the PCG guild, since they tend to be an awesome crowd.)

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Yeh this game is terribad

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
Yeah, I played it for about a week, but had horrendous lag, and from when I could play, it wasn't that great. Space combat was innovative, but just awkward. Ground combat was shitpoor, and the skill/leveling system was confusing as hell. Won't be going back to it.
-
Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
The graphics and lag were just too poor for me to like it. Also, the combat just felt a little "lame" when playing with crazy futuristic laser/phasor weapons.

Re: Star Trek: Online - Open BETA!!
I am so sad that this game isn't any good. I heard the space combat was really interesting, but I never heard anything about ground combat. Frankly, in this industry no news is bad news. If the media boys aren't talking about it, it's a bad sign.
