Re: The Photography Thread!
There was a program on 5 the other day with Suzie Perry about sports photography was actually really good, gave you some good tips for taking pics, think there is a whole series of them, might be worth having a look
Re: The Photography Thread!
Yeah, heard about that Target but never caught it, may have to do some hunting to see if I can find it anywhere.
Chaz - nice results, have you got a certain procedure you do for each photo or you just take it as it comes for each one?

All I do really is create adjustment layers (gradient maps mostly) and muck about with the blending modes of them. Also I tend to create a sort of lens blur and saturation vignettes, as well as normal ones where it gets darker towards the edge.
Re: The Photography Thread!
Chazles are nicer, even if the first one is a bit more paedo ;)
Also vox, you have some wierd friends....

Re: The Photography Thread!
Target - Did some research into the Channel 5 show and it basically seemed like it was dumbed down massively, although general consensus is that the expert who did the sports one went into a lot more detail so will have a look for that one.
Mitch - Well he does have a bit more experience, and yes I do :p.
Oh, and cause I could only really Photoshop yesterday while WoW was DLing, had a go at pissing about with brush dynamics, rushed the body a bit and technique needs work but I kinda like it.

Lol! He did drop the ball once throughout the time we were watching him, was quite lol to watch it bounce down the bank leading up to the Sacré-Coeur :p
Re: The Photography Thread!
Amazing work, would be nice to see some more colour though.
I'm going to try and sound like a smart ass and point out that number 7 doesn't adhere to the rule of thirds :P.
Re: The Photography Thread!
Thanks again Cal :D. Yeah, I'm thinking about re-editing a few leaving in colour but the light was meh so they look pretty flat :(.
Haha, true, may crop it a bit :p.
No 5 and 9 have been added to some randomers Flickr album about Paris, I iz happy :D

Hehe thanks, intended to get him as the only stationary thing in the exposure but he moved on about 3/4 of the way through, still gives some pretty awesome ghostly effect :D.

And the reason why f/1.8 is just win for depth of field;

Mainly bought for shooting a gig this weekend where I'd need the large aperture due to the low light, will post up shots from there when I've done the shoot :)
Re: The Photography Thread!
Gig went alright actually, what I've learnt;
- Autofocus, expect to work without/unsuccessfully with it unless there's a fill light or the performers don't mind the AF assist beam firing.
- Flash, needed so fking much.
- 50mm primes, great for when you're in a press pit or the band are moderate distance away, other than that expect some close up shots.
- ISO, I knew I'd be on ISO 1600 all night, yeah it's a bit noisy but not too bad, would have loved a 550D or 50D though so I can go up to 6400
- Be mindful of what you're wearing round your neck. Nearly went cameras first into the stage so had to quickly shield them from damage lol. Also decided I'd launch a glowstick, bad idea. Felt the cameras flail about violently, heart skipped a beat lol.
- 2 cameras are a necessity. Had an f/1.8 50mm on one and a 28-80mm on the other, last time I'd been to the venue they had a fill light so was banking on using the 50mm without a flash, they didn't this time, still made use of them though for different effects.
But yeah, the pics;

If Starbucks offered that, I'm pretty sure they would sell out. :D Everything you've done so far looks incredible, although the singer in that band might wanna consider trimming his arms a little bit.

Trimming his arms?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I'll go get a BONESAW!
Re: The Photography Thread!
Re: The Photography Thread!
Can't wait to get my D3100!
Re: The Photography Thread!
Can't wait to see the results you get either :).
I give it a month before you have an itch for another lens/flash/battery grip :p.
Re: The Photography Thread!
Gave water drops a try today and yesterday, pretty mediocre results.
http://imgur.com/Fm30C.jpg
And today managed to a minor "crown" although not the best one.
http://imgur.com/KDrCr.jpg
I managed to overheat my onboard flash due to overuse and my custom diffuser (Read paper taped over it lol) so now thinking about external flashes that have a better recycle rate lol.
Re: The Photography Thread!
Lots of noise on that first one. Looks like you're shooting in low light?
Re: The Photography Thread!
Nah, its the texture of the bowl (Well, baking tray) I was using, everything else was dirty and just wanted practice really lol.
They were low light, but with flash. (1/125th for Sync, ~f/18-f/22 and ISO 100).
Need to get hold of some quality streets, the wrappers make awesome coloured diffusers :D.
Re: The Photography Thread!
YES! Quality street do, I remember using those with my dad's camera last year.
Have you got a custom flash in mind? I could find out which one my Dad's got if you wanted.
Re: The Photography Thread!
xD.
Well its a toss up between splurging on the Canon 430EX II (£199) or going 3rd party with the Yongnuo YN-468 (£70) and then getting a few shoot through umbrella's etc and wireless triggers. Currently swaying towards the YN-468 and the triggers, mainly cause I'm poor :p.
If you could find out what he has it would be most appreciated :D.

Can't wait to get a tripod so I can do shots like that. Anyway, here are my best from the first few days with my Nikon D3100:
