You should be able to, apparently in M2:TW you could bugger about with the files to make a completely new faction, there was a tutorial in PC Gamer or summat, so you might be able to do this as well in E:TW.
And Midge, the given release date at the moment is November 2008, but it will probably be put back several times like most games.

Well if you look on the Sega website about Empire:Total War then it says the PC release date is due to be Autumn 2008, but a recent interview video says the release date will be Winter 2008.

Brand new land battle screenshot has been released, showing some redcoats in close combat with some sort of green soldiers. It seems like they're quite far in developing these units, since you can see that they have variations in uniform:

There green, might be German? And as before, so long as you can play as the American colonies, i'm in.
It's really hard to tell who they are, some people think they're Irish because of the green, some people think they're Portuguese soldiers, I'm guessing they're Italian, they don't look Prussian or Austrian.

You're gonna need an uber PC to run that at the highest grphic settings. Looks pretty damn awesome, should have my 4870X2 by the time it's out so shouldn't have a problem
