    Help The Noob.com

    Hey,

Now, as you're probably all WELL AWARE, i'm a complete tit when it comes to knowing exactly what will work within my PC. The only things that make sense to me are the common annograms (whatever, stuff like HDD, DDR, PCI-E). Anyway, the dealio is, I have a spare £100 (a little more if you find something spectacular), and I need a new:
    GFX card,
    Mouse,
    Keyboard,
and any other extras you can think of and find for cheap.

Budget: £100 (A little slack room for the extra awesomeness pewpewpwnage kinda things)

My current computer depcs, I have uploaded a "dxdiag" file for you all to look at if needed.

If you need to ask me any questions, just reply to this thread,
    add me on Steam (HiddenRifle),
    add me on xFire (sandaemon).

For anyone who doesn't want to download from Megaupload:

At first glance, looks pretty dire. £100 isn't going to do much for you at all.

That's why I said I had a little extra just incase, but I can understand why it'd be pretty dire. I'm not wanting like, THE LATEST in tech, but something of a decent upgrade. And mouse wise, anything with a scroll, since in a fit of rage, I broke the scroll on my mouse, and now CoD4 is stupidly difficult without a scroll :P

Since the setup for that PC is quite frankly abysmal, you'd be better off using it on extras like a mouse, a keyboard, mouse mat etc, and then save for an upgrade system.

I won't offer advice on the computer budget, since I have no knowledge of the budget parts (looking at Phant to offer advice here). On the peripheral point, would you just want a generic upgrade on what you have (what do you have btw?) or a gaming specialist upgrade?

On that budget, I would highly recommend my current keyboard - the Razer Arctosa. Very comfortable, and very reasonably priced for something that looks awesome. I would also recommend a Razer mouse on similar reasons, but since they are designed around different styles of grip on the mouse itself, it would be difficult to recommend one without knowing your style. To discover which of their products would work best for you, I recommend going through their configuator.

I think it might not be worth it, as buying a better graphics card will only make you also turn up some CPU intensive stuff and although the 3200 was not bad in its day its a bit lackluster now.

In terms of what you said Oric, I was given these choices, in this order.

    Razor Imperator
    Razer Lachesis
    Razer DeathAdder

I have a Lachesis, and it is a very nice mouse and works well with my 'claw' grip. However, judging that the Imperator came out, I'm assuming your grip is 'palm'. I'm not sure on the pricing for all of them, and that is obviously a factor, so it would be worth checking it, but the reviews for the Imperator but it above (albeit slightly) over the Lachesis.

    Re: Help The Noob.com

Well, in terms of price, I'll post them from Amazon, since they're the cheapest from anywhere:

    Razer Deathadder Re-Spawn:
    £43.82

    Razer Imperator Gaming Mouse:
    £54.99

    RAZER LACHESIS BANSHEE BLUE:
    £59.99

So I was just going to get the DeathAdder and look into buying the keyboard if I don't find better, and a headset.

But yes, my grip is apparently palm.

As for components, I would take a look at some of the OcUK pre-overclocked bundles such as this:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...id=339&subcat=

Add in a last generation graphics card such as:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-079-GW

And a new power supply (if you need one):

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-111-AN

    And a bigger HDD

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=HD-054-SA

Use your current case and optical drive, and you've got a very capable PC for under £450, will play almost anything on max at your resolution.

Cheers Calneon. I'll look into this when I get a proper job and build it bit by bit. Has anyone got any ideas about decent headsets for cheap-ish?

Nice choice on the DeathAdder, but judging by recommendation and reviews, I would urge you to consider the Imperator again - the extra £10 seems to be well worth it.

On the headset point - from my experience, I wouldn't get Plantronics. They have good sound quality, but each one i've had has fallen to bits within six months, which is still garunteed, but their customer service is not great either. The Creative 'fatal1ty' headset is good - the microphone is top notch, but the sound is a little lacking, although thats me comparing it to my Senny HD 595's in a Xonar STX Essense when the fatal1ty ones were in onboard sound via my old PC , so it's not really a fair comparison. Before the Senny set though, I was very pleased with the fatal1ty set. They are, on average, about £30, which would, combined with the Arctosa and DeathAdder, would push your overall spend above £100. But assuming that slack room could cover an extra £20, you can't go wrong with the Imperator upgrade and the fatal1ty set.

i have the imperator and have had a DeathAdder in the past which is now dead, but i must agree with oric, it is alot better than the death adder imo.

In terms of headsets, avoid the failtality and get Goldring DR50s and a clip on mic, tis what I have, comes out cheaper than the Failtality and gives a v nice sound.

    Hey john.

I'd agree wiht the advice to wait till u have liek £350 or so to spare and then build a low end gaming oriented rig, salvaging whatever you can.

If your on a budget dont get a razor mouse or your not gunna have anything left for decent components.

get a trust / saitek mouse if u want something high sensitivity and go for a cheap trust / saitek gaming / multimedia keyboard.

    To sum up:

    1. Cheap brand Gaming mouse / keyboard
    2. Wait till u have enough to essentially build a new rig cheap-o
