UPGRADES!!!

Oh yes, its that time of the century again

Yeah, i kinda need some advice about upgrading.
My current specs are
Motherboard: P5Q-Pro
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400@3GH'z
Graphics: a GTX 260
RAM: 4GB

I really dont think the proccessor is shit though, its still costs around 225$ (130ish quid)in iceland, but its only a dual core, the motherboard and ram are fine i suppose, but graphics card i suppose is the only thing thats getting outdatedish (even though its the newest item in my pc)

Anyway on to my thoughts, since money is limited and i dont want to spend around crazy amounts, i was either thinking of getting the new Phenom X6 hexcore, some nice cheapish am3 motherboard and 4gb ddr3, but this leaves out the graphics card and i simply dont really have money for much more so should i either get the GTX470 and possibly try to fit in a quadcore intel proccessor that is about the same value as my current proccessor?

I'd honestly stick with what you have for a few more years. Games aren't getting any more demanding because they're being held back by current generation consoles.

You'd see the biggest improvement buying a new graphics card, which I guess wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yeah it's not bad at all. Though if you want to upgrade and have the money, go for it.

GTX260 216SP beats the 4870, GTX260 192SP is just under the 4870, then 9800GTX+ is just above 4850. At least that's what I've always gone by. A GTX260 should really still be fine, especially if its the 216SP version. If it's the 192SP version, they apparently overclock better, so whack out afterburner and get clocking.

Only need for an upgrade atm is if you're struggling with current titles or you're looking at going into something like 3DVision.


Edit: Also worth noting the HD6000 series is just round the corner and so is Sandy Bridge from intel.

Hmm, Sandy Bridge??, also HD6000 series, what do you think they will cost? if under 300quid then i suppose i can wait

sandy bridge is intels next gen CPU architecture, and the hd6000 will probably range in price with the lower end cards coming out abit later than the top spec ones
