    Question esport in UK

    Hi,

I am making this post in order to try to see if I have the right picture about esport in UK.
My feeling is like it's under developped compared to countries like France or Germany.
For instance, according to my proper experience, I have lived 5 years in London and I only found as gaming cybercafe the HMV in Picadilly circus.
Can't find any in Liverpool. I don't see also a lot of LANs but just a few.

This doesn't make sense to me because UK is one of the biggest country in Europe selling games.

So if I am wrong, I might not look at the right places on internet to get those information and location.

What are your feelings and input on that?
Any good web address to look at?

    Thanks

I don't really hear much about proper eSports in the UK, I know of a few LANs that go on but ATK normally stick to iSeries events (like i43 next month WOO!), but I think it's extremely underdeveloped in comparison to a number of other European countries, for instance I don't think there are any high-level LoL teams with more than one player from England in. I think it's 'cause it's not as well accepted over here
Take that ya one-eyed, bomb-lobbin', cactus eatin', pot bellied, thug fat jigglin-chicken whoopin' big, back-stabbin lob-armed creepy spastic bloody, blind-eyed pashy little twitchy pickle-headed rocke- hoppin, potato-poppin' phony two-faced stealthy mutant bastard!

    That's the point that I don't understand...
Why it's not well accepted whereas more people are buying games here than in the rest of Europe?
In France, it's more old people (over 40s) who still believe that video games are for little kids. But gamers getting older is changing this vision.

I strongly believe there is a lot of potential in this country to develop gaming community and esport.

I used to run a cybercafe and there was a huge problem simply with the cost of machines and maintenance / upkeep.

When people can game at home for "free" even spending £2/hour is too much for most to consider for a lot of time.

Also if you want to run something like that you have to pay a lot more to get licensing to do it legally, steam is actually affordable if you have a high income and is better than the rest but unless your always packed then your fucked :P

As for actual E-sports there isnt really a big scene here at all. Tho the use of things like css and tf2 mixes is growing, and people competing at i Series each year increases too.

Someone else paid for it all as they owned the building but I was a joint director, meaning less than minimum wage and being on call 24/7

Was a great fun job tho

I've always wanted to set up a gaming Cafe, but my local shut down a while back, too.

Seems like the kind of thing you need to do alongside another job.

(Lol, sorry, bringing it truly off-topic now)

Alongside a sports bar, I'd love to come up with a new gaming cafe idea. A business idea on one of our modules this year was the creation of the new type of gaming cafe with booths with X360 and PS3 and sofas for groups of people to come in an play, seemed like a good idea, although their financial projections were a bit whack. After 5 years and expansions, a turnover of £1.2m? lol.

Must have been. They started with one in Birmingham and then one in London after 2 years and one in the north somewhere after another year. I thought it was a good model actually, but the judging panel/markers for the modules really didn't seem to understand it, much as they didn't really seem to understand out online cosmetics retailer either (I got a 1st in that module overall, so I don't really mind). They also didn't consider food costs as well if I remember rightly.

I think there is something missing in our environment. I really would like to see a place where you could meet other people with gaming interest, but also discuss, share, compete, watch some online competitions ...
