Fall of the Samurai Co-op Campaign Diary

Yeah sorry about the header... so Setsoru and I decided to give the co-op campaign on Fall of the Samurai a go, and thought we could take screenshots, etc, and post a campaign diary.

So to begin with, a little about the factions we decided to play as, we decided to go Imperial rather than Shogunate:

    Setsoru - Saga

    The Emperor's Diligence

    - Gunnery (+5 to the accuracy of all artillery pieces)
    - Industry (+5 to growth from industrial buildings)
    - Engineering (-15% reduction to the recruitment and upkeep costs of ships)
    - Rangaku (Trade with the Western Powers has been established)

    Other Starting Bonuses

    - Only faction to begin with a copper-plated ship
    - Begin with decent artillery unit (Parrott Guns)
    - Begin with Foreign Veteran
    - Safe, isolated starting position

    Chazlene - Choshu

    The Emperor's Fury

    - Zeal (-10% to the cost of ishin shishi actions)
    - Marauding (+25% to income from looting)
    - Adaptability (-10% to the costs of modern military buildings and units)
    - Impetus (+3 to the charge bonus of all units)

    Other Starting Bonuses

    - Start with unit of Modern line infantry
    - Begin with Ishin Shishi (probably the most useful agent in the game)

The objectives for the Campaign are to capture a certain number of provinces for ourselves, and make sure pretty much all the remaining provinces are held by Imperial clans, including Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo).

We decided to man the fuck up and play the campaign on Legendary Difficulty, which includes Battle Realism mode, meaning on the battlefield we can't move the camera too far away from our army, and we won't have the minimap.

So stay tuned and wish us luck, hopefully I'll post the first entry later today.

Re: Fall of the Samurai Co-op Campaign Diary

    Entry 1 - Winter 1864

    Setoru's starting position:

    My starting position:

To begin with I did the standard procedure of spending my initial money on commercial buildings, and tried to trade and ally with as many neighbouring clans as I could, including the clan Tsuwano, which was surprising considering they were Shogunate and ultimately my enemy:

To try and grab an early lead I decided to attack my neighbouring enemy, the Iwakuni, by laying siege to their town. Our armies were pretty much balanced but of course he had the massive advantage of defending from a fort, however I had the bonus of being able to call in naval bombardments from my nearby fleet, so we decided to attack just to bombard the enemy as much as we could then probably retreat (Setsoru has a nearby unit because I gifted him one of mine, before we found out you can just share your units in battle if the other player doesn't have any):

I haven't got around to filming the replay of the battle yet, so wait for the next post.

Ok... a little embarrassing but since I was playing as the notoriously hardest faction in the game we got absolutely raped... so we've started again, this time I'm playing as a different faction which is closer to Setsoru's faction so it makes more sense anyway, will post this one instead at some point.

Haha, not legendary enough to win broskiis, but make a new one as this did look a pretty sick idea.
