    Halp!!!!!11111

Right, I want to get a new rig, and to cut costs I'll probably get most of the components myself.

I'll probably get something along these lines:

    Q6600 Processor £168.25
    2x1GB Corsair DDR2 675MHz RAM £54.00
    Inno3D 8600GT 258MB 540MHz £67.38 (believe it or not, http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126974)
    Antec Basic 500W PSU £39.94

    Altogether £304.32+mobo.

Now, I have no idea what mobo is good at all. Can someone link me to a good cheap one on ebuyer or something?

    Is 500W enough?

For the processor, you should get the Q6600 Energy Efficient version (G0 stepping) which has a better performance than the standard one and is easier to overclock. Memory wise, you should get some OCZ RAM instead of Corsair because it is much better value for money, and has very similar performance to Corsair. This is the RAM that I am planning to get for my new PC - although you may find it too expensive. In terms of graphics, you would really notice the difference if you could get an 8800GTS but I understand if that is out of your price range. The PSU sounds fine although you couldn't go wrong with a 600W PSU which would give you extra room to change your setup. I recommend using the Intel P35 chipset for overclocking, although if you want SLi you should get the 680i chipset from Nvidia. I prefer Asus motherboards over other manufacturers although it is your choice. If you are building a new PC from scratch, then you also need to think about your operating system, case, sound card (built in is usually crap), CD/DVD drive and hard drive for which I recommend this (I will be getting this for my new PC). I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

I'm not planning on replacing everything entirely, just some things in my box (the aforementioned ones).

Also, I don't really give a shit about overclocking. I just want a decent processor that lets me run games well.

It's OK, although you might want to consider this.

    £100?

Remember what I said about not wanting top of the range shit. Will my mobo run all my components?

Probably, yes. Remember to research it on Google before you splash out.

dont get the 8600 because 1. it runs DX9 games rubbish and with dx10 it hasnt got the power to run it fully, i would either get the 320 mb 8800 GTS or the X1950PRO if you dont want to splash out £180. erm ill find the link to the X1950 theres a good one for £90

    EDIT:

Hmm, I'll probably be looking at a total cost of something like £400-450 if I want to get a new HD and a PSU as well.

Now, where to get the money...

ask parents for money and then pay them back by selling your old parts?
