This tutorial will show you how to extract files from any steam game you have installed, for example any sounds within a game or textures. In this tutorial I will use the Team Fortress 2 music as an example.
Firstly you need to download 'GCFScape' from here:
http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26
Select the 'Installer' link. This program recognises the game files so you can extract them.
Once you have installed GCFScape open it up and the window should look like this:
Once you have this open go File>Open then navigate to Program Files>Valve>Steam>SteamApps. In here you should see many folders with a light purple symbol. These are the folders that contain the game files only GCFScape can recognise. It should look like this:
Then choose the folder called 'team fortress 2 content.gcf'. Once you have done this a folder called root should open with two other folders inside it, like this:
Next navigate to tf>sound>ui. In here there should be a list of .mp3's and .wav's, like this:
The Team Fortress 2 songs are the files gamestartup1.mp3, gamestartup2.mp3 and gamestartup3.mp3. Right-click on these and click extract. Then you can add them to iTunes or whatever player you use and listen.
If there's any other game files you want to extract it's common sense really to choose the right files to open.
Hope you found this tutorial useful.
