    Chalex4's New PC

The dreaming has finally stopped as my new PC's components all arrived this morning from the back of the City Link van . Here is a full list of the components:

    • Mirosoft Windows XP Professional (32 Bit)
    • Antec Nine Hundred - Gaming Case with 200mm Top Fan - No PSU
    • OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
    • Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
    • BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
    • Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
    • Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer - Fatal1ty Professional Series
    • Samsung SH-S203NBEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM (x2)
    • Antec Neopower 650W Modular PSU - Blue LED 12CM Fan
    • Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD501LJ) (x2)
    • Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV Tuner card
    • Zalman CNPS 9700 LED Socket 754, 940, 775, 939 & AM2 CPU cooler
    • Sunbeam 12 Inch Dual Blue Cathodes
    • Logitech G15 Keyboard 2007 Version
    • Belkin Serial ATA 2.0 7-pin Cable - Blue 18" (x2)
    • Akasa Serial ATA 45cm DAYGLO Blue Data Cable (x2)
    • Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
    • Akasa AK-TK-01 Cable Tidy Kit
    • Cable Ties UV Blue Pack of 10 (x2)
    • ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Surface Purifier - 60ml Kit
I already have decent 5.1 surround sound Creative speakers, a Logitech G5 (v2), a Samsung SyncMaster 913N (to be upgraded next year) and a Medusa 5.1 surround sound headset so none of that had to be ordered.

All of this set me back about £1,300 and was ordered from a mixture of Ebuyer, Overclockers and Kustom PCs. NB, I have been saving up for this PC for at least 1 and a half years so this was definitely not a spur of the moment-type purchase.

Here are some pictures of the components above:

*Please note, the cat was not included *

Anyway, I will be building this some time over the next few days and this will be a very welcome change from my ageing P4 3GHz with 1GB RAM and an Nvidia 6800GS. Also, as the people on TS will already know, the new G15 is 100% awesome for people who don't have a massive amount of space for their keyboard (which the old G15 required). I am planning to overclock the Q6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz which should be fairly easy because it is a G0 stepping version.

awesome and good to see you got the new 65/55nm cards and not the old ones.

the only thing I would have said is that maximus board is quite old.

TV card seems a bit pointless though with a new PC, I'd have waited a little while before putting that in.
Will be ordering my 600 quid quadcore this week....!!!! (Whole shebang, not just the processor, we arent all col mitch).

    Re: Chalex4's New PC

Wat would you recommend: building my own PC for about £600 or buying a Dell XPS?

    Re: Chalex4's New PC

Build your own ffs. Dell XPS can't be upgraded easily as they build them oddly. Plus building your own is much cheaper.

exactly what Hutch said, i can build a decent one for you, do you need a mouse/jeyboard etc and monitor and speakers, also what do you prefer Intel/AMD and ATI/Nvidia

I know that more 45nm processors are coming out early next year, but I wouldn't have had much time to build a new PC then and since the Q6600 was so cheap I can always upgrade it some time next year if I want to. I especially bought an X38 chipset motherboard because it supports PCI-E 2.0 and 45nm processors. All the stuff came in about 4 huge boxes full of plastic shock absorbers. I ordered it on Sunday afternoon with next day delivery.

Building your own PC is always going to save you money if you buy from the right places, but make sure you know how to build a PC before you spend loads of money on the components.
